ASFI Academy Infrastructure Series

The Asia Sustainable Finance Initiative (ASFI), incubated by WWF Singapore, aims to promote sustainable finance practices in the region, specifically focusing on building low-carbon, climate-resilient economies aligned with the SDGs and the Paris Agreement. Based in Singapore, ASFI works with global stakeholders to support regional financial institutions in adopting ESG best practices, recognizing Singapore's pivotal role as a financial hub in driving Asia's transition towards sustainable systems and climate resilience.

Participants in ASFI's four-course series on sustainable finance for infrastructure companies and projects will delve into key concepts and strategies essential for driving sustainable development within the sector. Aligned with the IBF and MAS Sustainable Finance Technical Skills and Competencies (SF TSCs), this structured learning experience equips finance professionals with the necessary insights and skills to navigate the complexities of sustainable finance in the infrastructure industry.

Upon successful completion, participants will unlock the prestigious IBF Skill Badge, stackable towards IBF Certification.

LIST OF TOPICS COVERED:

Course I: Infrastructure & the environment at a glance (30-45mins)

The introductory course covers the essential background information needed to comprehend why environmental and social (E&S) issues can create both risks and opportunities for companies and projects in the infrastructure sector, as well as for the banks and investors that provide funding.

Course 2: Materiality & risk transmission in infrastructure investments (30-45mins)

The second course expands on the content discussed in the initial course and equips finance professionals with a structured approach to: 1) recognize the environmental and social (E&S) issues that are likely to pose significant financial risks to infrastructure companies and projects, and 2) grasp how these risks are transferred to banks and investors.

Course 3: E&S metrics & tools for infrastructure (30-45mins)

The 3rd course advances on the content discussed in the preceding two courses and offers finance professionals: 1) insights into crucial metrics for assessing clients' and portfolio companies' handling of environmental and social (E&S) issues in the infrastructure sector, and 2) a curated selection of E&S data sources to aid financiers in monitoring the E&S policies and performance of infrastructure companies and projects.

Course 4: Strategies for responsible lending and investment in infrastructure (45-60mins)

The final course focuses on essential strategies that bankers, investors, and other asset owners can utilize to effectively integrate information.
