Sustainable Investment ManagementNEW

Developed in reference to the IBF and MAS Sustainable Finance Technical Skills and Competencies (SF TSCs), this IBF-STS accredited course  is specifically tailored for professionals in the financial sector who are keen on driving sustainable investment strategies within their organisations and provides participants with the necessary expertise to integrate sustainable investment concepts and approaches into their portfolio management practices.

Created by the Singapore Green Finance Centre and instructed by Dr. Liang Hao, Associate Professor of Finance and Co-Director of Singapore Green Finance Centre.



This 3-hour e-Learning module consists of six content units, each with videos 
that are 20-26 minutes long.

Unit 1: What is sustainability finance and why is it important?

Unit 2:.Key sustainable investment strategies or investment approaches and governance practices

Unit 3: Tools and vehicles for Sustainable Investment

Unit 4: Sustainable Portfolio Management

Unit 5: Key Sustainable investment principles and best practices

Unit 6:  Leading global and regional sustainable investment initiatives, coalitions, and pledges


At the end of the course, participants in the financial sector will be able to:

  1. Gain a deep understanding of sustainable investment concepts, principles, and practices, and their relevance to the financial sector.
  2. Explore different sustainable investment approaches, such as ESG exclusion, ESG integration, impact investing, and thematic investing. Understand the strengths, limitations, and potential synergies between these approaches.
  3. Familiarise themselves with sustainable asset classes, including fixed income, loans, corporate equity, and private equity. Learn how to assess and evaluate sustainability factors within these asset classes.
  4. Develop the skills to incorporate sustainability factors into the investment process. Learn about different methodologies and tools available to assess and integrate  environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into investment decisions.
  5. Stay informed about current trends in sustainable investment, including emerging approaches and challenges. Explore the evolving landscape of sustainable finance and identify opportunities for innovation.
  6. Study leading global and regional sustainable investment initiatives, coalitions, and pledges. Understand the principles and best practices promoted by organizations such as the UN Principles for Responsible Investment and the Operating Principles for Impact Management by IFC.


The course is assessed based on the standard IBF accreditation scheme.

Overall passing rate: 80% or more for each assessment

This course is recognised under the Standards Training Scheme (STS) and is eligible for STS claims subject to all eligibility criteria being met.
