LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the fundamental principles of anti-money laundering (AML) and countering the financing of terrorism (CFT) within the asset and fund management sector, including the ability to define and differentiate between money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation financing, and to recognize the stages of the money laundering process.

  2. Analyse the legal and regulatory frameworks governing AML/CFT in Singapore, with a focus on the roles and obligations of asset and fund managers under these frameworks, including adherence to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) regulations and international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

  3. Evaluate the impact of financial crimes on the financial system and society, and assess the risks and vulnerabilities specific to the asset management industry, including the methods used by criminals and the implications of non-compliance with AML/CFT regulations.

  4. Apply knowledge of AML/CFT best practices in the asset management context, including the development and implementation of effective AML/CFT programs that incorporate customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, reporting, and compliance with sanctions.

  5. Keep abreast of emerging trends and technological advancements in AML/CFT compliance, understanding their implications for the asset management sector and incorporating cybersecurity measures into AML/CFT strategies to mitigate risks associated with digital assets and new investment products.
