LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the module, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the types of market abuse, their impact on market integrity, and Singapore's regulatory framework to combat market abuse.

  2. Define insider trading, identify prohibited activities, analyse case studies, and recognize defences to insider trading charges.

  3. Define market manipulation, identify prohibited activities, analyse case studies, and discuss challenges in detecting and prosecuting market manipulation.

  4. Define false trading and other prohibited conduct, identify prohibited activities, and analyse relevant case studies in Singapore.

  5. Describe the roles of key stakeholders, differentiate between trade surveillance systems, and apply best practices from the MAS-SGX Trade Surveillance Practice Guide.

  6. Summarise enforcement actions, explain the calculation of civil penalties, and discuss recent enforcement trends and case law in Singapore.

  7. Describe Singapore's cooperation with foreign authorities, summarise relevant laws and regulations, and discuss challenges and opportunities in international cooperation against market abuse.
