RE: Inaugural Asian Investors’ Corporate Governance Conference
SIAS is honoured to present the Inaugural Asian Investors’ Corporate Governance Conference in Singapore on 19 & 20 November 2009. The objective of this conference is to raise the awareness of corporate governance practices in Asia and evaluate the impact of the global financial crisis has on corporate governance practices.
This year’s conference will be graced by Mr Heng Swee Keat, Managing Director, Monetary Authority of Singapore, as Guest of Honour. The closing address will be delivered by Mr Ho Kwon Ping, Chairman, Singapore Management University and Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree.
The conference theme is “Corporate Governance – Does It Make A Difference in Asia?”. The Conference is an industry-led initiative. It is organised by SIAS together with Sim Kee Boon Institute, Singapore Management University, as its strategic partner. The conference’s co-organisers are Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS), Singapore Association of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (SAICSA), and Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). This Conference is also endorsed by The Law Society of Singapore, CFA Singapore, Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), Investment Managers Association of Singapore (IMAS) and CPA Australia. Highlights include:
> Dr Mark Lawrence, Managing Director, Mark Lawrence Group and Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company, is an internationally recognized thought leader in the field of risk management, will share his view of the US Banking crisis and what went wrong in the boardroom.
> Associate Professor Low Chee Keong, Associate Professor in Corporate Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong will discuss issues pertaining to corporate governance and regulatory framework of capital markets in Asia.
> Dialogue session with Mrs Fang Ai Lian, Chairman, Great Eastern Holdings on Driving Corporate Governance Practices – The Chairman’s Perspective
> Mr Lee Kha Loon, Head, CFA Institute, Centre for Financial Market Integrity, Asia Pacific, will shed light on the issues and challenges of the role of Independent Directors in Asia.
> Professor Jeremy Goh, Director, Sim Kee Boon Instiutute, Singapore Management University will share his findings on the development of a regional corporate governance index.
> Panel discussion with Professor Paul Malatesta, University of Washington Business School and Professor Piman Limpaphayom, Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration, Chulalongkorn University on Corporate Governance Does Matter!
This conference will present content not previously addressed and is, therefore, a must attend conference for corporate governance professionals, directors investor relations personnel, senior managers, investors, regulators and participants in the financial markets. About 700 professionals from Asia are expected to attend this event.
