Singapore, 23 December 2022 — The Investment Management Association of Singapore (IMAS) has appointed Jenny Sofian as Chairman, effective January 2023.
She is the Chief Executive Officer of Fullerton Fund Management and brings with her extensive leadership and fund management expertise. Jenny is an accomplished executive, with three decades of industry experience, and a deep understanding of asset management in Asia. Prior to joining Fullerton in 2017, she spent more than 20 years at Amundi Singapore, and was the CEO and Head of South Asia since November 2009.
Over the course of her career, Jenny has held various investment and business leadership roles, including senior portfolio management and research responsibilities. As Honorary Treasurer of IMAS since 2019, she’s contributed immensely to the financial stewardship and management of IMAS.
Jenny is actively involved in a number of industry bodies that are working to positively influence the asset management industry. This includes being a member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Financial Centre Advisory Panel and sitting on the advisory board of the Singapore Green Finance Centre. A member of the Institute of Banking and Finance’s Fund Management Working Group, she was conferred the IBF Fellow award in 2020.
Her appointment replaces Susan Soh, the outgoing chairman of IMAS, who has been in the role for 3 years. Under Susan’s leadership, IMAS actively engaged in national initiatives and steered IMAS committees to advance the fund management industry.
This includes the Green Finance Industry Taskforce, and Singapore Funds Industry Group which Susan personally served on. Schroders’ participation in the Digital Innovation Committee, the Regulatory Committee, Human Capital Committee and the Environmental Risk Management (EnRM) Working Group, have also greatly impacted the growth of IMAS over the years. With Susan’s guidance, IMAS has managed to further solidify its presence in the industry locally and regionally.
“We appreciate Susan’s tenure as chairman of IMAS where she galvanised significant resources and partnerships to support the Digital Accelerator Program and co-chaired the Capabilities and Training Workgroup at the Singapore Funds Industry Group,” said Carmen Wee, CEO of IMAS. “With Jenny serving as the new Chairman, it will be the first time in over 15 years that a homegrown fund house is leading IMAS. We look forward to a fresh perspective, as we embark on this new and exciting chapter.”
“I am delighted to be appointed Chairman of IMAS and look forward to working with the team to further enhance the position of IMAS in the industry,” Jenny said. “IMAS plays a central role in the investment ecosystem, connecting and collaborating with fund managers, regulators, government agencies and service providers. The post pandemic environment offers exciting prospects to strengthen the asset management industry in Singapore, and we are committed to deepening member engagement and representation within the industry.”
