Synopsis:

COVID-19 has catalysed the digitalisation process for many firms and working from home has become the new normal. As the global workforce shifted to remote work, the threat landscape expanded exponentially. While creating a virtual office has its merits, it also poses a challenge to how a firm manages its control environment. With the evolution of the risk landscape, it has become increasingly multifaceted, where COVID has accelerated the move of data and operations to Cloud.

Learn what firms have done to mitigate the threats, how firms are looking at the present, and the challenges with returning a workforce back to the office. In addition, understand the types of attacks targeting employees as the work remotely.

What are some of the common challenges that financial institutions today are facing in a COVID world? What are some of the key cybersecurity, operation and compliance considerations that companies should take into account before making the leap of faith?

Moderator and Panellists:

Mr Marcus Hackett, Head of Technology and Change, Asia Pacific, Global Technology & Change (GTC), Schroders

Marcus Hackett works for Schroders where for the past 7 years has been responsible for leading the technology, cyber security and IT risk teams. Latterly his remit has been expanded to also lead the regions enterprise change and consulting function.

His current responsibilities span technology service delivery into the Investment, Operations, Distribution and Corporate services divisions. He also leads an enterprise change function that partners with business divisions to drive change and digital transformation. As part of his role Marcus takes responsibility for the firm’s regional cyber security and IT risk assurance functions and in his spare moments jointly chairs the Singapore Diversity and Inclusion council.

Marcus graduated from the University of Westminster, with an MBA in business management, is a Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C-CISO) as well as certified Agile Safe Practitioner.

Mr Peter Salmon, Senior Director, Technology and Cybersecurity, Investment Company Institute (ICI)

Peter G. Salmon is Senior Director, Technology & Cybersecurity of the Investment Company Institute, responsible for the Institute’s Technology Committee, Chief Information Security Officer Committee, ICI Global’s Information Security Officer Committees, and ICI’s Business Continuity Sub-Committee. During the last 20 years Mr. Salmon was also responsible for the Institute’s Small Funds Committee, and End of Day Pricing Forum. Prior to joining the ICI in 1999, Mr. Salmon spent 11 years with The NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc., most recently as Director of NASDAQ International Market Initiatives, Inc., where he was responsible for the general management of a NASDAQ subsidiary that assisted in the development of foreign equity markets from a technological and regulatory perspective.

Mr. Salmon represents the ICI on the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council for Critical Infrastructure Protection and Homeland Security, United States Department of the Treasury, the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation’s INFRAGARD (Board Member), and the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance. Mr. Salmon is a graduate of Villanova University, where he earned a BA in Economics, and The American University, where he earned a MA in Economics. Mr. Salmon has also earned Certificates in Financial Planning from Georgetown University and Cyber Threat Analysis from the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance.

Ms Kimberly Chow, Security Lead, AWS ASEAN

Kimberly is a Specialist Security Architect for Amazon Web Service. She works with customers ranging from large regulated enterprises, to unicorn cloud native organisations to develop, design, and build secure, resilient and compliant architectures. Kim regularly conducts public workshops on cloud security, most recently, presenting during the AWS Summit 2020 on Managing Identities at Scale, and Transforming Security with Automation. Kimberly was recently recognised as the Overall Winner of the Top 20 Women in Cyber Security Singapore Awards 2020.

Mr Allwyn Barreto, Partner, Financial Services Consulting, KPMG

Allwyn is currently a Partner at KPMG Singapore’s Financial Services Consulting team, with a special focus on growing the Commercial Banking and Asset Management consulting portfolio. He has over 20 years of financial services sector experience, 10 of which with KPMG. At KPMG, Allwyn has overseen business strategy and transformation projects for financial institutions including commercial banks, asset managers, insurers and the regulators in the region.

Prior to KPMG, Allwyn was the Regional Sales Director in Asia for a large Asset Management house where he developed the institution-level sales and operational framework to service clients in Asia and worked alongside the fund teams to offer customized global equity and fixed income solutions to institutional clients.
