The AIFMD came into force on 21 July 2011, requiring each EU member state to transpose the AIFMD into national law by 22 July 2013. The AIFMD lays down rules for the authorisation, ongoing operation and transparency of managers of alternative investment funds, and has significant ramifications for firms raising capital or operating, managing, or otherwise involved with, fund structures.
This talk, presented by KPMG LLP, will provide a brief background of the Directive, an overview with the main areas it is covering, as well as the pain to transpose the rules in a particular country like Germany. It will also discuss impacts of the Directive on non-EU fund managers, based in countries like Singapore and how they will need to operate to generate funds in Europe, marketing of non-EU alternative investment funds to EU investors, cross-border issues, and the move away from private placement.
