Investment management firms manage and undertake investment risk on behalf of their clients to generate investment returns. It is therefore critical that these organisations are able to calculate, analyse and act upon information about the investment risk and return of their products. However, due to various reasons, there are significant inconsistencies amongst investment management firms in the investment risk and performance functions that they undertake.

This Talk seeks to provide a set of guiding principles which the IMAS Risk and Performance Committee has put together for consideration when establishing and developing the risk and performance function in an investment management firm. Good practices on investment risk management and performance analysis will be discussed, as well as the governance of and within a risk and performance unit.
