In this Talk, Sidley Austin will discuss recent regional fund passport developments and the opportunities which these present for Singapore fund managers. In particular, the Talk will look at the ASEAN CIS Framework, which is intended to facilitate the cross-border offering of collective investment schemes (“CISs”) to retail investors in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Sidley Austin will also compare the key differences between the ASEAN CIS Framework and the current Singapore regulatory framework for CISs and fund managers, which will be helpful to Singapore fund managers who are considering the extent of modifications required to allow their existing Singapore funds to be offered under the ASEAN CIS Framework.

Following this, PricewaterhouseCoopers will share insights on the need for a new investment fund framework for Singapore, and how the application of best practices from established fund jurisdictions globally should form the overarching framework for the asset management industry. Apart from identifying the current drawbacks to the fund framework today, PwC has also identified the key features to be considered form a structuring, governance and reporting perspective to future-proof the fund model.
