IMAS Lunchtime Talk: Understanding Cyber Exposure and What can be Predicted, Detected, Defended

29 Oct 2019

Cyberattacks happen, but are you aware of the prerequisites for a successful reconnaissance and exploitation? What makes attacks successful and what are the key principles of avoiding attacks?

IMAS is pleased to have Mr Mikko Niemelä, CEO of Cyber Intelligence House, to speak on how organisations and individuals can detect and monitor their cyber exposure.

In this session, Mikko will share of how organisations are trying to safeguard their valuable information assets and how relying on cloud services and third parties make success through this approach practically impossible. In order to survive in cyber era, we must reverse the conventional approach of owning assets and translate all security mechanisms into changing behavior of end user.

By attending this session, you will improve your understanding of cyber exposure, how to reduce organization’s visibility in order to reduce cost of defending the organization and how to build resilience within the organization.

About the Speaker

Mikko has more than 15 years of experience in cyber security having served as an analyst and consultant on security testing, information systems audits, security leadership and management, incident response and digital forensics, cyber defence, and exploit development. He has analysed the exposure of more than 6,000 organisations and helped more than 140 organisations assess and mitigate risk of their cyber exposure.

Mikko was ranked as one of the Top 100 Cybersecurity Influencers by Onalytica in 2015. He has lent his cyber intelligence expertise to assist with cybercrime investigations and the training of law enforcement agencies such as INTERPOL, armed forces and a number of intelligence agencies, as well as advising the European Central Bank in its efforts to improve cyber resilience. He also collaborates with OMFIF (Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum) in joint research and provides support for its members.
