2024 saw the successful transition of the US, Canadian and Mexican markets to T+1 settlement cycles, adding to the existing volumes of Indian and China securities that settle on a T+1 or T+0 basis today. With settlement cycles now likely to shorten across the world, the SGX is leading a new industry outreach initiative on the possibility of a move to T+1 for Singapore equities in the future and have engaged the ValueExchange (a specialist provider of market research) to help gather and analyse feedback.
Experience to date has shown that the case for and practicalities of a T+1 transition are highly specific to each market and profile of firm and so this new initiative is seeking feedback from all profiles of firm – including Singapore’s leading asset managers. Having been closely engaged with the T+1 transition planning for the USA and Canada, the ValueExchange is supporting market authorities in Europe and Asia-Pacific as they build their own plans for T+1 – most recently including the Australian ASX (White paper available here).
