Synopsis:
Notwithstanding the COVID-19 disruptions, the overall LIBOR transition progress and momentum have not slowed and LIBOR is set to discontinue by end 2021. Through this webinar, we hope to discuss the progress made in Singapore and the rest of Asia on the shift away from IBORs to RFRs, challenges faced by asset managers and how they are managing the transition, and the expected milestones for the transition.
Moderator and Panellists:
Paul Landless is a partner at Clifford Chance specialising in a full range of financial market products. He leads a Clifford Chance’s financial markets practice in Singapore and South-East Asia and has a particular focus on LIBOR benchmark reform and wider regulatory developments in APAC and globally.
He is part of Clifford Chance’s global LIBOR programme board, sits on ISDA’s and ASIFMA’s benchmarks committee or working groups in APAC and regularly speaks at industry conference on LIBOR reform.
He advises and represents several hedge funds, asset managers and private equity firms on financial markets matters and transactions and specifically he is acting now for some asset managers in Singapore and the region on LIBOR transition matters, which follows his work advising on the impact of the European Benchmark Regulation and foreign exchange benchmark reform in APAC since 2013, when Paul represented the Singapore Foreign Exchange Market Committee, ISDA and EMTA to lead a global industry benchmark protocol from Singapore for the transition of foreign exchange benchmarks in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
Christophe Mayol is Head of Derivatives Advisory for AIA Investment Management, based in Singapore. He is responsible for the development of cross-asset derivatives activities for AIA Group, designing and managing derivatives strategies, and overseeing the build out of the supporting infrastructure across the Group. He joined AIA Group in 2019. Prior to his current role, he was spearheading the Interest Rates trading and structuring activities of a French bank in Asia-Pacific. He has over 15 years of experience in derivatives and the interest rates space. Christophe earned a MSc in Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences, Lyon, France.
Akshay Maharaj is the Head of Treasury for BNP Paribas Securities Services in Asia Pacific based in Sydney Australia. His responsibilities include managing liquidity, interest rate, funding and foreign exchange exposure for Securities Services Branches in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Joining BNP Paribas Securities Services in 2007, he has I held various positions within the Custody Operations department before moving into the ALMT (Asset Liability Management and Treasury department in 2012. In 2016 Akshay was appointed Head of Treasury for Asia Pacific.
Akshay completed a Bachelor of Economics (Honors) from Western Sydney University and holds a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University.
Joyce Lai is regional head of Legal and Compliance-Treasury and Markets (including DBS Vickers), based in Singapore. Prior to joining DBS, Ms. Lai returned from London to join the Financial Markets, Legal team at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. She trained and practiced at Slaughter and May in London and in Hong Kong, and then joined Clifford Chance LLP in London. She was also in-house counsel (derivatives/structured products) at BlueCrest Capital Management and at MUFG Securities in London. She is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales (October 1998), and in Hong Kong (April 2001).
Jing Gu heads up ISDA’s legal team in the APAC region. Prior to joining ISDA, Ms. Gu was a Director in the Legal and Compliance Department of Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) Limited where she specialized in OTC derivative products and structured finance. Before joining Credit Suisse, she was an associate at Allen and Overy Hong Kong Office where she advised a number of international banks and Chinese banks on derivative transactions and ISDA documentation.
Ms. Gu holds a Master of Laws degree from Peking University, an LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law and a Master of Laws degree from Kyushu University in Japan. Ms. Gu holds the lawyer qualification certificate in China, is qualified in the State of New York and admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong. Ms. Gu has been working for ISDA since 2008.
