Legal Committee


The Legal Committee champions the proper adoption of good legal practices in the asset management industry by educating and sharing on legal matters within the industry through forums for discussion. Where relevant, the Legal Committee will also provide guidance and develop guidelines on matters of legal development.

Based in Singapore, Tricia oversees the legal teams responsible for supporting Manulife’s Wealth and Asset Management's Asia businesses and sits on the Asian Management Committee.

Tricia is an experienced financial services lawyer who qualified in Singapore in 1999. Prior to joining Manulife Investment Management, she spent 13 years at Schroders Investment Management where she was most recently Head of Legal for Southeast Asia. Earlier in her career, Tricia was a lawyer with Allen & Gledhill in Singapore before taking up legal roles in OCBC Bank and AIA insurance.

Tricia graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) in 1998.

Shieh Lin has substantial experience in relation to advising on the structuring, establishment, authorisation and recognition of local and offshore collective investment schemes for both retail and restricted offers in Singapore. In addition, she provides advice on agreements relating to offers of collective investment schemes including investment management agreements and distribution agreements as well as on general compliance matters such as advice relating to the marketing and advertising of collective investment schemes. She also advises fund managers in the listing of their collective investment schemes as exchange traded funds on the Singapore Exchange.

Carmen has more than a decade’s experience specializing in investment funds and assisting local and offshore fund management companies with the establishment/formation, authorisation, recognition, structuring and restructuring of onshore and offshore public collective investment schemes. She also regularly advises on the formation and restructuring of private investment funds, provides advice on all aspects of Singapore fund management licensing, business conduct and regulatory matters and assists with the structuring, drafting and negotiation of various fund management related agreements and documentation.

She has private practice and in-house experience spanning more than 15 years in the financial services sector, with particular focus on the investment management industry. Jo-Anne has also advised banks, insurers, fund managers and other financial institutions on a variety of financial services regulatory matters while in private practice.

Before transitioning to an in-house role, Marc enjoyed a brief foray into project management with a firm providing e-learning solutions.

Marc graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 1995. Marc has been called to the Bar of England & Wales and the Singapore Bar to practise as a barrister and an advocate and solicitor respectively.

He also supports sustainability-focused product development work and the implementation of sustainability-related disclosure rules across APAC.

Alexander has a wide breadth of public and private sector experience. He started his career as a Justices’ Law Clerk in the Singapore Supreme Court, and has held other public sector appointments including Senior Legal Counsel at the Monetary Authority of Singapore and State Counsel at the Attorney-General’s Chambers. Alexander was also an associate at a leading Singapore law firm, and immediately prior to joining Schroders was Assistant General Counsel at Lion Global Investors.

The Legal Committee is working on creating a set of model investment management agreement terms which the industry could take reference from. In addition, the Legal Committee has also contributed a problem statement to the IMAS Digital Accelerator Programme (DAP) 2021, where it hopes to harness fintech to find an efficient solution for the industry to transmit the required fund information to MAS.
